Can England Recover Their Bid For World Cup 2018?

Thursday, December 16th, 2010

If you’re hoping 2018 will bring a summer of international Football to your backyard, you may be better off moving, if rumours circulating in Zurich, headquarters of Fifa, are to believed.

It may just be Portuguese mortgages for the Football hardcore if a note intercepted between the Spanish member Angel Villar Llona and Qatar member Mohamaed Bin Hammam is to be believed. The note, with the words ‘vamos a ganar’ (we are going to win), is being interpreted as proof of the two countries’ collusion over the two World Cup slots in 2018 and 2022: Qatar is said to be helping Spain/Portugal to winning the bid for 2018 in return for a leg up in their 2022 bid. However, all promise of sanctions against the countries for their collusion has been dropped by Fifa.

The English bid has been losing popularity and credibility in recent weeks, whilst the Portuguese / Spanish bid gains in popularity alongside the rival Russian bid. The English bid has allegedly been damaged by newspaper investigations of the Nigerian and Tahitian members, who were filmed taking bribes in return for votes for a fictionalized American World Cup bid.

David Cameron has pledged to help repair English fortunes, and has been lobbying his fellow world leaders at the G20 world summit, Seoul. Mr Cameron intends to fly out to Zurich to speak with Fifa leaders. Time will be tight ahead of the December 2nd vote that will finally decide the hosts for 2018 and 2022 World Cups. Having made significant investment already in facilities for the 2012 Olympics, the World Cup is seen as a particularly appealing prospect for the United Kingdom.

The Portuguese/Spanish bid on the other hand would see a new host-nation (The Spanish hosted in 1982) giving a freshness to their bid. With Spain as the current World Champions, their chances are looking especially good. With the World Cup looking increasingly likely for Southern Europe, it’s no surprise that many English people are sighing and looking into the strange world of Portugal property finance.

Is Football Coming House

The English soccer staff have managed to reach the quarter finals of the Fifa World Cup, will this finally be the year that soccer comes back house for the primary time since 1966? Despite not enjoying their greatest soccer, England are still within the tournament and must have a great likelihood of lifting the trophy.

Some may say that I’m biased as I’m from England myself and am an avid England supporter, nevertheless I actually feel that 2006 could possibly be the 12 months for our boys on the market in Germany. This will likely of course be all blown away on Saturday when the group face Portugal and massive Phil Scolari. Scolari has been the supervisor of the final teams who’ve knocked England out of the last major tournaments and subsequently will pose an enormous risk to my team. He was the manager of the Brazil group that beat England within the 2002 World Cup and he was and still is the supervisor of the Portugal group that beat England within the 2004 European Championship. I am hoping that it will be third time lucky for the English this year.

To say that England are but to peak is a little bit of an understatement as they’ve in fact been well beneath par. This could however be quite a superb factor, what number of instances have Germany scraped by means of to the final levels of the tournament with out thrilling the crowds?

With Wayne Rooney changing into stronger and fitter this must be one of the best opportunity that England has had for quite some time. There are many leaders and potential captains within the English team. Gamers like John Terry, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard would all make worthy captains when David Beckham decides to surrender this role. In addition to potential captains, these players are also what I call winners and when push comes to shove hopefully will deliver the goods.

Argentina, Brazil and Germany might prove to be the biggest risks to England. After a gradual begin Ronaldo appears to have discovered his scoring boots again and the Brazil team has some nice gamers all over the park. I have to say that I get quite bored of them successful nevertheless, absolutely its the turn of England this time around.

Germany have performed some great soccer on their home turf and seem to building up a head of steam. They might show fairly tough to stop and all the time seem to do well within the World Cup.

Many people would argue that Argentina have probably performed the best football so far and that they’re worthy favourites. I must agree with this and just hope that they’ve peaked too soon.

It definitely would be an awesome summer season in England if our staff can convey soccer dwelling to where it belongs this year. Good luck England.

The Italy Team For World Cup 2010

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

Italian Marcelo Lippi has faced a number of soccer pundit jokes this season due to the age of his team.  The team is very likely to be fairly new by the Brazilian World Cup, when athletes such as 32 year-old Gianluigi Buffon, 36 year-old Fabio Cannavaro, 32 year-old Gennaro Gattuso, and other players like Andrea Pirlo (31), Gianluca Zambrotta (33), Vincenzo Iaquinta (30), Mauro Camoranesi (33), and Antonio Di Natale (32) are sure to be gone from the team.  Who will Lippi or his successor choose to replace the team?

Lorenzo De Silvestri    Defender     (Fiorentina)    Aged 22
De Silvestri, a former full back for Lazio, is slightly over six feet tall.    When he moved to Fiorentina in 2009, De Silvestri came into his own in the form that served him in representing Italy from U16 to U21. With such a solid basis in the skills necessary to become a good fullback, De Silvestri might end up replacing Gianluca Zambrotta for the national team.

Davide Santon        Defender    (Inter)        Aged 19
Able to play down either flank, Santon is a hugely talented young defender who made 28 appearances for Inter this season as well as five appearances already for the Azzuri. The tireless Santon can run the flanks for the entire ninety minutes and has even been compared to Paolo Maldini by coach Marcelo Lippi. Technically sound too, Santon, barring injury and a dramatic loss of form, should be a member of the next few Italian squads at major finals events.

Mario Balotelli        (Striker)    (Inter)        Aged 19
Mario Batelli, though prone to fights and poor sportsmanship, may be one of the best attackers or wingers wearing the Italy soccer apparel in upcoming games.  Batelli’s run-ins with both fans and management only serve to distract from his excellent record: the player scored twenty goals in 59 games and notched 6 and 16 for the U21 Italian set. His time will surely come in the Euro 2012 qualifiers when Italy are going to need a new look strike force.

Federico Macheda    (Striker)    (Man Utd)    Aged 18
Despite Macheda’s failure to make first team at Old Trafford, soccer pundits agree that Man United’s striker could make a name for himself in the 2010-2011 season, and even gain the attention of Azzuri management. Macheda’s strength as a striker coupled with his intelligence gives him a boost in scoring goals. Particularly good with his back to goal, he has already been capped at U21 level for Italy and if he can start to make a bigger impact in the United first team, full honours should soon follow.

Antonio Candreva    (Midfielder)    Udinese    Aged 23
The most daunting challenge that the Italian team faces is finding Pirlo’s replacement, and they may have found their man in Candreva. Pundits speculate that the Udinese midfielder will make his loan to Juventus a more permanent situation, especially since his abilities to play the entire midfield and master the perfection of Pirlo’s holding, creative role have been urging a permanent position.
